Planning a cycling tour in Nikko? Here are answers to the most common questions about our guided tours, routes, and conditions.

Basic Information

Is the cycling tour suitable for beginners?
Yes. Our tours are designed for beginners to intermediate riders. Electric-assist bikes make uphill riding much easier.

Do I need to be fit?
No. You don’t need to be highly fit. The electric assist allows you to ride comfortably even in hilly areas.

What is the minimum height?
The minimum height is 150 cm due to the bike size.

What is the age requirement?
Participants aged 15 and over can join the tour. Children under 15 may also join if accompanied by a parent or guardian. All minors must have consent from a parent or guardian to participate.
Please note that all participants must also meet the minimum height requirement for the bicycles.


Tour Experience

What kind of places do we visit?
Our cycling tours cover a variety of areas in Nikko, including historic districts near World Heritage shrines and temples, quiet forest roads, lakeside routes such as Lake Chuzenji, and natural areas like Senjogahara wetlands.
Each tour offers a different experience depending on the route.

How long are the tours?
We offer several options, including 3-hour tours, 5-hour tours with lunch, and custom cycling experiences.

What is included in the tour?
Most tours include e-bike rental, helmet, local guide, and drinks. Lunch is included on selected tours.


Weather & Preparation

What happens if it rains?
The tour usually runs in light rain. We provide disposable rain jackets and pants if needed.

What should I bring?
Please wear comfortable clothes and sneakers. Please also bring a photo ID. A small backpack is useful, and you may bring water. Rainwear is recommended depending on the weather. From November to April, Nikko can be cold, so warm gloves are also recommended.


Meeting & Access

Where does the tour start?
The meeting point depends on the tour. Some tours start in Oku-Nikko, while others begin near central Nikko.

Do you offer hotel pickup?
Pickup is available for selected tours. Please check the tour details when booking.


Safety & Routes

Is traffic heavy in Nikko?
Traffic conditions vary depending on the area.
Central Nikko can be busier, especially around World Heritage sites. However, our routes are carefully selected to avoid heavy traffic as much as possible.
Oku-Nikko generally has less traffic and offers quieter roads, making it ideal for relaxed cycling.


Is it safe for beginners?
Yes. Our tours are designed with safety in mind.
We choose routes suitable for beginners and provide support throughout the ride. Your guide will adjust the pace and route based on the group.I

What is the difference between central Nikko and Oku-Nikko?
Central Nikko is known for its World Heritage shrines and temples, and tends to be more crowded.
Oku-Nikko offers quieter roads, lakes, and natural scenery, making it ideal for relaxed cycling.
We offer tours in both areas depending on the experience you are looking for.

Should I choose an e-bike or a regular bike?
We mainly use e-bikes for our cycling tours because Nikko has many hilly areas. E-bikes make the ride easier and more comfortable, especially for beginners.
For custom tours, other types of bicycles may be available depending on the route, bike availability, and your request.
